Horsehead Nebula

The Horsehead Nebula, which is 1,600 light years from Earth, is a cold dark cloud silhouetting the bright IC434. Part of the Orion Nebula, it also known as Barnard 33 and was first recorded in 1888 at the Harvard Observatory. The bright area at the top left of the cloud is a young star surrounded by dust and gas.
