Retina Nebula

The IC4406, also known as the "Retina Nebula", is a dying star exhibiting a high degree of symmetry. If were we able to view it from another angle, it would appear as a vast donut. It is also the closest nebula to Earth.

An irregular latticework type pattern riddled with dark streaks or lanes riddle and cross the center . Each lane is a boundary between the hot glowing gases that produce the colors seen here. Unseen in these images is a large zone of neutral gas that does not emit any light but was detected using radio telescopes.
